The Colour of Magic

Dear Cass Maren, Of this topic I am only versed in observation, for the learned arts are a quietly kept secret among those who wield them.

Now magic is without limits, save its quantity. It is my understanding that a weirder of this force manages to connect to a nearby Source and manipulate the power from that to produce an outcome that they had intended. Though on occasion it is known that unintended circumstances can arise.

Most notably the destruction of what is now Fenland. Though at the time is was once a fair and lush kingdom, and from it’s heart the High King of Men, Bellon Firstshield, ruled. But when the darkness of the Dursaf [der-sav] washed over everything, Croskin became a beacon of light; an island in the heart of misery that was Relufic’s [rel-yoo-fic] Swawn. The war was decades fought, and on the eve of defeat the Archmage sacrificed her life to conjure a-

-monstrous force that overturned the land in fire and in water. And thenceforth the Fic have been seen no more. Sources of Magic are known to deplete, though I have not known of one recently. But it is widely speculated that Standing Stones that litter the lands were once places of Source Power. In fact, in the very centre of Croskin there lies a towering monolithic gateway, with the scribblings of eons on it. Could that be the Source from which the Archmage pulled her power? When the Elledjhon unified the island of Ronga, the university over the Source in Fernac was seized and the use of magic became something regulated by the newly crowned High King. Whereby the Wielders of Magic had once held sway over the rulings and power of this world, they swiftly fell from status, being now no more than servants willing to the bidding of their Masters and non-else. I had witnessed their decline, and I shall not utter any further. Yours, The Chronicler of Farcliff
